Image Upload Problem

Posted on: 18th Feb 2010 By: Adam Moss 6 Comments

A problem that has appeared for several people with update of Magento has been that the ‘Browse’ and ‘Upload’ buttons have been missing from Images section of a product creation. The most common cause of this problem is not having the latest flash player installed, or having other vital flash files missing from the installation. I don’t really know why this needs to be flash in the first place, surely a simple HTML upload form is just as effective, and more widely accessible.

I found a plugin that replaces the Flash Uploader with HTML. Known as the ‘Dull Uploader’, the plugin works perfectly straight away and is compatible with Version 1.4.0.0.

You can get the extension key from the official Magento connect website here: http://www.magentocommerce.com/extension/1756/no-flash-uploader

yeah works on 1.4.0.1 Why the help these buttons just disappeared no idea. That is one of the big problems with magento you do some stuff on the site and unknown to you a wheel drops off somewhere. Name of the garme is get a stable version and stick to it. I’m waiting for 1.4.X to be stable and that is it for a couple of years. Then I’ll just roll out that version for customers without any continual pain.
    Thanks

I had the disappearing buttons with 1.4.1.1 but only after i’d switched to a custom admin theme, turned out magento doesn’t look for the swf in the default theme, you have to copy them across to your custom theme. That’s all the swf files in /skin/adminhtml/default/default/media/

Yes Richpc, you are right. I was also wondering about the same problem. Adding a symlink to the default admin theme’s media folder solved the problem for me.
