Enable Magento PHP Error Reports

Posted on: 7th May 2010 By: Adam Moss No Comments

One of the most frustrating things when you’re a developer is when you’re code isn’t working and you can’t work out why… trust me, that’s something I find myself thinking a whole lot. For some reason the latest versions of Magento have turned off the standard error reporting as default. This means that you get an error page telling you there’s a problem with your script, but it doesn’t tell you what has caused it. It’s almost like a mechanic spending hours underneath your car, coming out and telling you ‘It’s Broken’.

As much as we all hate seeing those words: “There has been an error processing your request”, a very simple alteration to a filename will reverse your fortunes and provide you with the helping hand you need going forward.

Simply open the ‘errors’ folder on your server and rename the file local.xml.sample to just local.xml
